GRPS Turkey Trot 2014

Join over 2,000 runners in the 22nd annual Thanksgiving Day Run for Grand Rapids Public Schools. The purpose of the event is to engage the entire community in a higher level of awareness around physical fitness, movement and nutrition. Proceeds from this event go to support the athletic programs in the school district. There will be a FREE Mini-Trot for kids ages 12 and under. There will finisher prizes for the Mini-Trot and medals for the top 3 place finishers for each age division in the 5K race. Click here to sign up now.

Parent University Unveils Online Courses, Power Parent Status


Online Courses

A series of online courses have been developed to meet the needs of busy parents. Busy schedules, child care, and transportation can be barriers that prevent people from participating in traditional Parent University classes, so the new website also includes online courses that can be taken whenever it’s convenient. The following courses are available online, in both English and Spanish: attendance and achievement, BGRAD success secrets, and teaming with teachers.

Student Attendance Campaign Continues This Fall

This fall, as part of the district’s parent engagement plan, GRPS is continuing an aggressive campaign focused on improving student attendance.

Student success goes hand in hand with good attendance and far too many students are chronically absent – missing 18 or more days of school.  Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success in kindergarten through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, parents and families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely, every day, ready to learn.
