Expanded Synchronous Time
Attendance Calls Starting Monday, November 9
Based on input from parents and staff, we are expanding synchronous instruction AND resuming automated attendance communications starting this Monday, November 9.
Expanded Synchronous Time: During our listening sessions, we heard that parents wanted increased direct teacher instruction and more small group academic support. We are pleased to share that we have reached an agreement with the Grand Rapids Education Association to expand the amount of synchronous time for students. The following changes will be implemented beginning Monday, November 9:
- Synchronous Time for Elementary/PK-5/PK-8:The elementary/PK-5/PK-8 schedule is expanding to include synchronous learning from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Mondays. This means synchronous learning for elementary/PK-5/PK-8 students will be Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon for the remainder of the semester.
- Small Group Synchronous Instruction:Small group synchronous time will be provided in the afternoon Monday through Thursday for all grade levels. There will also be teacher-assigned times on Friday for secondary students. This time is designed to meet individual student’s academic needs. Teachers will work with students and families to schedule instruction.
Automated Attendance Communications: It is important that students attend synchronous learning as scheduled. In order to further strengthen and improve student attendance during virtual learning, we are expanding automated attendance communications to include robocalls, text messages, and emails. Teachers will continue to take attendance at the beginning of each class period on synchronous learning days. The attendance communication will be sent at approximately 10:30 a.m. informing parents if their student did not attend.
If you have any questions or need more information, please contact your child’s teacher or school principal. Thank you.
