Organizational 

The Board holds its organizational meeting at its first meeting in January. 

Regular 

Regular meetings of the Board of Education shall be held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Administration Building unless otherwise announced and posted. Board meetings will last only until 9:30 p.m. unless the Board votes to extend the adjournment time. The District will post a notice of the regular meeting schedule at the entrance to the principal office of the Board and/or the principal office of the District within ten days after the organizational meeting. In cases of an official holiday, regular business meetings shall be held on the first following work day. 

The schedule of regular meetings or the regular meeting date may be changed by the Board as provided in current law. 

Special Meetings 

Special meetings of the Board include closed sessions, work sessions, public hearings, and emergency sessions. 

  • Special meetings of the Board of Education may be called by the President, the Executive Committee, or upon written request of two or more Board members.
  • Written notice of the meeting will be sent to Board members and the meetings shall not be held sooner than eighteen (18) hours following the posting of the meeting, except for emergency sessions.
  • The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the notice and only the business mentioned in the notice shall be transacted.
  • At least eighteen (18) hours prior to the time of any special meeting or any rescheduled meeting, the Secretary shall post in a prominent place at the Board of Education's offices at 1331 Franklin, SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan, a notice of the time, place, and date of said special meeting or rescheduled regular meeting. Emergency Meetings 

The Board may meet in emergency session in the event of severe and imminent threat to the health, safety or welfare of the public, when two-thirds of the members elected to, appointed, and serving on the Board decide that delay would be detrimental to the efforts to lessen or respond to the threat. 

Information/Work/Study Sessions 

Information/work or study sessions of the Board shall be held as called by the President. Such sessions shall be open to the public and properly posted as Board meetings. 

Adjourned Meetings 

Meetings may be adjourned and reconvened as provided by law.
