GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — GRPS scholars were recognized during the inaugural Warner, Norcross + Judd Scholar Competition, a new academic partnership highlighting scholar research, writing and critical thinking.
The reception, hosted by Warner, Norcross + Judd LLP at its downtown Grand Rapids offices, honored participants and winners from Grand Rapids Public Museum High School and Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy.
As part of the competition, scholars completed a persuasive, historically grounded paper using the Lincoln-Douglas debate format. Each paper examined a social justice issue in U.S. history, connected it to a specific law, court case or policy, and argued whether the policy upheld or violated a core moral value.
Scholar work demonstrated strong critical analysis, with scholars evaluating historical laws and their lasting impact on society.
All participants received a cord recognizing them as Warner, Norcross and Judd scholars. The top two students in each class were awarded medals to wear at commencement, along with scholarships. First-place winners received $1,500, while runners-up were awarded $750.
