The Academy of Health Sciences and Technology (AHST) at Innovation Central High School provides a unique and enriching educational experience for scholars interested in careers in health field. We reach beyond exploring doctor and nurses and dive deep into the many careers available the health field. We are located adjacent to the "Medical Mile" and the region's only high school designed to prepared scholars for work in the booming health care industry.
AHST scholars experience hands on experiences that allow them to witness firsthand the real-world applications of their studies and to gain valuable insights into the diverse opportunities within the healthcare sector. Job shadows, a week-long exploration visiting universities, museums and businesses related to health careers and a trip to Chicago, guest speakers, mentoring sessions with health professionals and field trips enrich the learning experience making education more practical and applicable. Scholars can leave high school as a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) through a partnership with Life EMS or a pharmacy technician with a partnership with the pharmacy department at Corewell Health. Both Programs at no charge to the Scholars!

- Classroom: Scholars will take core classes and AHST classes to prepare them for a career in the health field. 9th, 10th, 11th grade scholars will have a minimum of 1 AHST class and 12th grade will have 2 AHST classes
- Clinical: 12th grade scholars will participate in clinical hours in the EMT and Pharmacy Technician classes.
- Job Shadows: 11th and 12th grade scholars will have opportunities to participate in job shadow.
- Internships: Scholars in grade 12 will participate in internships at hospitals, clinics, or health offices
- Partnerships: Corewell Health, Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, Van Andel Institute, Grand Rapids Community College and Life EMS

Scheduling Recommendations and Information
- In 12th grade, all graduation requirements must be met before electives will be scheduled.
- Scholars are expected to take a full schedule - the equivalent of 6 courses each semester and must take all of the requirements listed above.
- Some courses may be offered online with a teacher facilitator.
- Strongly recommended for college bound scholars: minimum 2 years of the same world language, although some colleges/universities prefer 3 to 4 years of the same world language.
- Academic support classes are available as needed, including special education.
- Advancing through the course sequence is dependent upon successful completion of the prerequisite course
