Professional learning is significant because education is an ever-growing, ever-changing field. This means that educators must be lifelong learners to support scholar achievement effectively. Professional learning not only allows educators to learn new knowledge, strategies, and skills but also to interact with educators from other areas to improve their own practice.

GRPS Annual PL Dates: August 19 & 20 | October 19 | November 2 | January | March 15
Hours may be prorated according to the date of hire.

Annual District Professional LearningAll certified staffRequired yearly professional learning provided by GRPS.
OrientationAll certified staffRequired within the first year of hire. See Orientation Checklist
New Teacher 90Classroom teachers in their first three yearsAdditional induction and professional learning required by Michigan law. These hours cannot be used to satisfy the annual district professional learning requirement.


Teachers Are Responsible For:

  • Completing all required district professional learning.
  • Participating fully in the New Teacher Induction Program during the first three years of classroom teaching.
  • Tracking professional learning completion in KALPA, when required.
  • Maintaining an active MOECS (Michigan Online Educator Certification System) account to monitor SCECHs, manage certification, and complete certificate renewal requirements.
  • Maintaining a valid Michigan teaching certificate by completing the required Education Related Professional Learning (ERPL) hours for renewal.
