The results of a school-related investigation including any and all written reports, statements and video recordings taken by a School Official may be shared with the local police if it is determined that a criminal violation has occurred or to aid in a criminal investigation. A GRPS Public Safety Officer, following any incident of scholar misconduct, completes an Incident Report. The report is filed with the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) and maintained by the District. Building administrators have the discretion to sign a complaint for offenses that do not warrant arrest. In the event that police must be contacted, Board of Education Policy 8130 & Policy 8140 is followed.
Michigan schools are mandated to report twenty-four (24) categories of scholar misconduct to appropriate law enforcement agencies. These reports are to be filed and maintained by GRPS and are subject to review and/or sharing with the Grand Rapids Police Department. The categories are as follows:
