The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) at Ottawa Hills High School provides scholars with a look into the vibrant fields of Hospitality and Tourism. Modeled as a National Academy Foundation program, students take up to 3 years of coursework with the option to deepen their experience with Work-Based Learning, Internships, and/or College-level coursework. Sharing a rich partnership with Experience GR®, students hear from industry professionals, take field trips to leading business, and learn about the finer points of a successful career. Students will walk out prepared to continue their education in Business, Marketing, Hospitality & Tourism, Entrepreneurship, or another related field.
REAL-WORLD, CAREER-BUILDING APPLICATIONS
- Classroom: Scholars will take 1 course per semester for up to 3 years (6 semester-long courses).
- Field Learning: Scholars will frequently visit local industry leaders in Hospitality & Tourism such as the Amway Plaza hotel
- Internships: Scholars are well-positioned to pursue internships at local businesses to put their learning into practice.
- Dual Enrollment: Post-secondary institutions such as Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, and Ferris State University offer coursework in related to Hospitality & Tourism that scholars can take while in high school.
- Work-Based Learning: Scholars in their 4th year in the program can secure paid work-based learning placements to start building their resumes with real-world learning.

Scheduling Recommendations and Information
- Seniors must first schedule all remaining graduation requirements prior to taking part in elective or academy courses.
- Scholars must begin with Principles of Hospitality & Tourism and Delivering Great Customer Service.
- The order of courses taken after year 1 may change depending on staffing and availability.
- Dual Enrollment and Work-based learning must be approved by the student's assigned school counselor
