GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Houseman Field was buzzing Thursday night as the Grand Rapids community came together to cheer on scholar-athletes from Ottawa Hills High School and Union High School in the first football matchup between the two schools since 2023.
Fans filled the stands for the Crosstown Rivalry, creating an electric atmosphere as the two GRPS schools opened their seasons under the lights.
The excitement continued at halftime, when the City High School Marching Band debuted its new Michael Jackson-inspired performance. Fall athletes from both Ottawa Hills and Union were also recognized during a special parade of athletes.
Union opened the season with a 37-0 victory over Ottawa Hills.
