GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — The Class of 2026 is continuing to raise the bar, with 103 graduates earning the Michigan Seal of Biliteracy from the Michigan Department of Education.
That total is four more than the Class of 2025, which ranked second in the state for the number of Seal recipients.
The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes scholars who have demonstrated proficiency in English and one or more additional languages. Recipients receive a letter of recognition from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and have an official seal placed on their diploma.
Graduates from several GRPS schools earned the distinction, including CA Frost Environmental Science Academy Middle High School, City High Middle School, Grand Rapids Learning Center, Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy, Innovation Central High School, Southwest Middle High School, Ottawa Hills High School, and Union High School.
GRPS scholars earned seals in the following languages: Arabic, Cantonese, Dari, French, German, Japanese, Kinyarwanda, Mandarin, Pashto, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swahili.
