GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- The Grand Rapids Board of Education voted Feb. 9 to extend Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby’s contract through June 30, 2027. The one-year extension was requested by Dr. Roby as she approaches the conclusion of her current contract term.
“Our work together began in the midst of a pandemic. Rather than standing still, we pushed forward by launching a new Strategic Plan and Facilities Master Plan that set a bold course for the future,” Dr. Roby said. “The results speak for themselves: higher test scores, record graduation rates, teacher vacancies cut in half, buses running on time, and a historic investment in our schools.”
Dr. Roby was hired by the Board of Education in 2020. As superintendent, she spearheaded a multi-year initiative to involve scholars, families, staff, and the broader Grand Rapids community in shaping the district’s future. This collaborative effort culminated in the approval of a new Strategic Plan in 2021. Building on that foundation, the Reimagine GRPS with Us! plan was launched in 2023, committing $305 million to enhance our schools and guide academic programs across the district. During each of her four evaluation cycles, Dr. Roby received the highest possible rating from the Board of Education.
“I am honored to keep building on this momentum as we prepare for a strong handoff to our next superintendent, so this progress continues without interruption,” Dr. Roby said.
