GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Cherry Health Union High School Health Center has been fully remodeled, providing a more open and inviting space for scholars and families that includes medical, behavioral health and dental services.
Renovations to the 1,950-square-foot health center at 1800 Tremont Blvd NW included moving existing walls to improve layout and patient flow, and adding new lighting, paint, flooring, furniture, and signage. The Union High School Health Center includes three exam rooms, a behavioral health counseling office, and a dental area.
“Cherry Health is proud to partner with Grand Rapids Public Schools to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated Union High School Health Center,” said Cherry Health Chief Operating Officer Bill Joure. “This transformation creates a more welcoming, modern space that improves access to comprehensive, high-quality care for scholars without having to leave school.”
GRPS received a $500,000 renovation grant from MDHHS and used some board of education funds to complete the project. Minor updates were also made at Cherry Health’s other two school-based health centers within GRPS schools: Innovation Central High School Health Center and Ottawa Hills High School Health Center.
“By modernizing the Union High School Health Center, we are reinforcing our commitment to ensuring scholars have convenient access to high-quality physical and behavioral health services in a safe and supportive environment,” said Kirstyn Wade, GRPS Director of Health Services. “When scholars can access care right in their school, it removes barriers and helps them stay healthy, focused, and ready to learn.”
Each Cherry Health school-based health center provides services including well-child and sports physicals, treatment of injuries and illnesses, immunizations, routine lab tests, and counseling.
