GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Scholars from City High Middle School took the stage alongside professional musicians from the Grand Rapids Symphony during a Side-by-Side concert held at Ottawa Hills High School, offering young performers a rare opportunity to experience orchestral music at the highest level.

The collaborative concert brought together City High Middle School orchestra scholars and members of the Grand Rapids Symphony to rehearse and perform, creating a powerful learning experience.

“In learning challenging music, our scholars have grown musically and the experience of making music together with professional musicians will help them imagine new and bigger possibilities with music,” said City High Middle School Orchestra Director Patricia Wunder.

The City High Middle 9th/10th Grade Orchestra joined the Grand Rapids Symphony for Ludwig Van Beethoven's Adagio molto-Allegro con brio from Symphony No. 1, op. 21.

The City High Middle Zero Hour Orchestra then joined the Grand Rapids Symphony for Antonín Dvoƙák's Allegro con fuoco from Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," op. 84.

“Side-by-Side concerts are one of our musicians' favorite educational events,” said Jennifer Onuigbo from the Grand Rapids Symphony. “Having the opportunity to perform challenging music with talented young musicians and demonstrate that music can be a lifelong hobby or even a potential career is both powerful and rewarding.”
