GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – City High Middle School senior Reese Hansen will continue running at the next level, signing with Wayne State University in Detroit to compete in both cross country and track.
Hansen competed in varsity cross country and track at Ottawa Hills High School.
In cross country, she earned three All-Conference honors and helped her team qualify for the state meet last fall. She ranks ninth in school history with a personal best of 19:36 in the 5K.
Hansen’s success extended to the track, where she is a three-time All-Conference performer and three-time conference champion in the 3200-meter run. She played a key role in her team’s 3200-meter relay, which won a regional championship with a school-record time of 9:40. Additionally, she helped qualify the relay team for the state meet in both 2022 and 2023. She ranks among the top ten in school history in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m events.
“Reese is a great teammate and friend, and she will be missed,” said Ottawa Hills Cross Country Head Coach Dan Ebright. “We celebrate this achievement, wish her well, and look forward to following her success at Wayne State.”
Off the track, Hansen is equally ambitious. She plans to major in biology at Wayne State University, where she will continue her passion for both academics and athletics.
