GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – The GRPS Citywide Art Show, the largest student art show in Michigan, is now open in downtown Grand Rapids.
Art from more than 2,000 scholars are on display at Western Michigan University-Grand Rapids, 200 Ionia Ave. SW. The gallery is open at no cost on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 1.
“It's so awesome to be able to see such a unique show where every building in the district is able to show off their artwork,” said Meg Johnson, an art teacher at Alger Middle School.
For scholars, it is a rare opportunity to have their work displayed at a public venue.
“It made me feel very recognized for all the hard work I put into what I was doing,” explained Peter, and 8th grader at City High Middle School. “It's also really cool just to see all of my friends art and all the names that I recognize.”
“It's heartwarming to see parents and families gush over their child,” said GRPS Director of Fine Arts Dan Van Til. “You cannot come to the show and leave in a bad mood.”
Attendees can bid on art while attending the show.
GRPS would like to thank our partners at Western Michigan University for providing the space for the annual art show.
“We couldn't display over 2,000 works of art if it weren't for the generosity of Western Michigan University and this amazing downtown campus,” Van Til added.
