GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –– The Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) Turkey Trot, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, is thrilled to announce that it has already surpassed a significant milestone with over 1,000 runners now registered for the 33rd edition of this Thanksgiving Day tradition.
The Turkey Trot is aiming to top last year’s record-breaking success, which saw 6,435 participants and raised over $300,000 for GRPS Athletics through registrations, sponsorships, and donations.
“The Turkey Trot is a celebration of our scholars, our families, and the values we share as a community,” said Dr. Leadriane Roby, GRPS Superintendent. “Reaching 1,000 participants is an exciting early milestone, but it’s just the beginning. Every new registration represents another stride toward supporting our scholar athletes and building a stronger GRPS. We’re energized by the community’s support and ready to keep pushing toward the next 1,000 and beyond!”
The GRPS Turkey Trot is a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of community, healthy living, and support for GRPS student athletes. With the goal of promoting fitness and raising funds to offset the costs of GRPS athletics, this family-friendly 5K has become a Thanksgiving staple for Grand Rapids residents and beyond.
This marks Blue Care Network of Michigan’s 11th year as presenting sponsor. Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) also returns as Mini Trot sponsor for the fourth straight year, supporting the youngest Turkey Trotters. New for 2025, Mathnasium, a math-only learning center offering personalized tutoring for students in grades K–12, joins as the event’s esteemed Golden Drumstick Sponsor.
The 2025 Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, and is expected to draw thousands of runners and walkers to downtown Grand Rapids. For younger participants, the LMCU Mini Trot (for ages 12 and under) is a fun, free option with no registration fee.
Participants can register online until the start of the race, which kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Registration is $35 through race week, increasing to $40 on race day.
