GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – Grand Rapids Public Schools scholar-athletes are planning to continue their athletic journey in college.
Claire Kuiper, a graduate of City High Middle School, has recently signed her Letter of Intent to join the swim team at George Fox University. Throughout her high school career, Claire was a key member of the Ottawa Hills Girls Swim Team, contributing significantly to their success with her remarkable skills and dedication.
Alphonse Sanders, a standout player from the Ottawa Hills High School (OHHS) boys basketball team, has also taken a significant step in his athletic journey. Alphonse signed his Letter of Intent to play college basketball at Olivet College, where he is expected to bring his talent and hard work to the collegiate level.
Union High School has its share of remarkable athletes making strides as well. Caileb Austin, a swimmer who graduated from Grand Rapids Montessori, has committed to Aquinas College. Caileb's tenure on the Union Swim & Dive team was marked by exceptional achievements, including winning five individual conference championships and earning four All-Conference awards. He also set records in four events, cementing his legacy at Union High.
Lucia Jacques, another Grand Rapids Montessori graduate, has committed to Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. During her high school career, Lucia earned All-Conference honors in both her junior and senior years, demonstrating her consistent excellence in swimming.
Both Caileb and Lucia have made history by becoming the first swimmers from Union to advance to collegiate-level swimming, paving the way for future athletes from their school to follow in their footsteps.
