GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – The Grand Rapids Board of Education voted Monday to approve the 2025-26 budget.
The 2025–26 budget totals $259.8 million, a $16.7 million decrease from the 2024–25 budget of $276.5 million. The cuts are designed to ensure financial stability and support for our classrooms, while also accounting for decreases in funding.
“We have presented a budget with significant cuts to administration and salary freezes for leadership,” Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby told board members before the vote. “This budget is focused on continuing to invest in our classrooms.”
The budget includes the elimination of two Cabinet roles through retirement: Executive Director of Athletics & Dual Enrollment and the Executive Director of Professional Learning & Development. Salaries for all district leadership roles (exempt group) have been frozen for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Through school realignment, some roles will be consolidated, including a single principal leading the combined Sherwood Park and Ken-O-Sha program.
Additionally, all out-of-state conference travel has been paused unless fully covered by external funding.
Meanwhile, funding at the instructional level will increase from $43.8 million in 2024-25 to $44.7 million in 2025-26.
