GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — The Grand Rapids Board of Education has officially launched its search for the next superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools and is inviting scholars, families, staff, and community members to help shape the leadership profile for the district's next leader.
The first phase of the search focuses on developing the Superintendent Candidate Profile through an extensive community engagement process. Our community can participate by attending one of four community town halls or completing an online survey that will launch in August.
Community Town Hall Schedule
- Tuesday, Aug. 11, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Southwest Middle High School
- Wednesday, Aug. 12, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Union High School
- Thursday, Aug. 13, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Ottawa Hills High School
- Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at GRPS University
Interpretation services will be available at each event.
“We are looking for a superintendent who embraces complexity and who takes challenges head on. A leader who can strengthen academic achievement, build trust with community, support our educators, make difficult decisions, and keep scholars at the center of it all,” said Board of Education President José Rodriguez.
Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby will continue leading the district through June 30, 2027, ensuring a smooth transition and continued stability for scholars, families, and staff.
The Board of Education has retained Ray & Associates to lead the national superintendent search. Community feedback collected through the town halls and online survey will help create the candidate profile, guide recruitment efforts, and inform the board throughout the selection process.
Applications for the superintendent position will be accepted through Oct. 4, 2026. The board expects to select finalists later that month, with finalist interviews and community engagement scheduled before naming the district's next superintendent.
