GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — Every GRPS school is competing this September in The Gold Standard, a district-wide attendance challenge in partnership with the Grand Rapids Gold.
The challenge encourages scholars to make regular school attendance a priority while giving each GRPS school the opportunity to win a special reward.
Each school is competing against its own attendance rate from September 2025. The school that shows the greatest improvement will earn a visit from the Grand Rapids Gold mascot “Buckets,” along with tickets for the entire school to attend the Gold’s School Day Game in March.
Regular attendance plays an important role in helping scholars thrive academically, socially, personally, and emotionally. A lot happens in a school day that can't be made up, and missing just two days a month can add up to nearly four weeks of school across a year.
Five Things Families Can Do to Help
- Check your scholar's attendance. You can see it anytime in the ParentVue App, or register your account here.
- Have a backup plan for getting to school if things come up.
- Schedule appointments outside school hours when you can.
- Do your best to plan trips around school breaks, not during the school year.
- Let us know if something's getting in the way. Transportation, illness, anxiety, or other hardships may be a barrier to regular attendance. Reaching out to your scholar’s teacher or school office is a great place to start.
