GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- GRPS Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby and Board of Education Treasurer Jen Schottke have been named as two of the 200 most influential leaders in West Michigan by Crain's Grand Rapids.
This is the second year in a row that both Dr. Roby and Schottke have been named to the list.
"GRPS has celebrated major milestones under her leadership, including record-high graduation rates and the largest enrollment increase in more than two decades," the Crain's article reads. “Roby’s doctoral research focused on the teacher mentoring experience, and she believes that teacher preparation and support shapes the academic experiences of students and that all students should receive the benefit of caring, strong and engaged teachers who believe in them.”
Schottke was named to the list for her leadership in the construction and design field in her role as President of the West Michigan Construction Institute.
Both were asked to answer a questionnaire for the article, including sharing their best advice.
"Always stand for what you believe and never stop learning," said Dr. Roby.
"When I was first campaigning to serve as a GRPS board trustee I remember feeling intimidated by the process and the many new people I was interacting with, from local politicians to donors to voters. A friend helping me with my campaign reminded me that 'people are just people,' no matter their title or position. I have said this repeatedly to myself throughout my career and to others who are feeling the same way I did," Schottke said.
