GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Grand Rapids Public Schools celebrated a milestone in inclusivity and scholar engagement with the unveiling of the newly designed, accessible-for-all playground at Coit Creative Arts Academy.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the state-of-the-art facility, which sets a new standard for playgrounds across the district.

The $400,000 project, funded by the Reimagine GRPS bond passed by voters in 2023, reflects a deep commitment to accessibility, creativity, and scholar well-being. Scholars from Coit were integral to the design process, offering their feedback to designs in early 2024. The result is a vibrant, multi-functional space that accommodates all scholars, regardless of physical ability.

The playground, completed over the summer, was ready for students on the first day of the new school year in August. It features artificial turf throughout, a new soccer field, an outdoor performance area, basketball courts, and accessible playscapes designed to promote inclusive play.
