“GRPS Champions” is a web series published every Monday celebrating the incredible work of GRPS team members.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – As Head Counselor at Southeast Career Pathways, Lisa Cook is dedicated to guiding scholars toward graduation and renewed confidence in their academic journey.

Each day, Cook works closely with scholars to develop personalized plans that help them get back on track for on-time graduation.

“When a scholar sees that the plan works, they buy into it and start to regain their confidence in themselves,” she explains. “I hope that I have had a small part in helping them develop that confidence.”

Cook joined Grand Rapids Public Schools after spending two decades in another district. Her journey to GRPS began with a recommendation from a former co-worker who believed she would thrive at Ottawa Hills High School.

“A former co-worker at that district recommended me for an open position at Ottawa Hills High School because she thought I would enjoy working there,” Cook recalled. “She was right, I was hired, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Now at Southeast Career Pathways, Cook continues to provide individualized support, ensuring scholars have the tools they need to succeed.

“I enjoy problem-solving. Hearing what the scholars need my help with and helping them map a plan to achieve it is especially rewarding for me,” she said.
