Dear GRPS Staff,
I am writing to share a leadership transition at Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy. Our principal, Mr. Harvey Crawley, has announced his retirement from GRPS. Throughout his years of dedicated service, Mr. Crawley has made a lasting impact on generations of scholars and families, helping to shape a school community built on excellence.
As we celebrate Mr. Crawley’s remarkable career and contributions, I am pleased to share that we have identified a strong and experienced leader to continue building on the foundation he helped create. Ms. Chasciti Jackson has been named the next principal of Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy.
Ms. Jackson brings years of educational leadership experience to this role. Most recently, she served as assistant principal at Alger Middle School and has also led scholars and staff as a principal during our Ignite Summer School program. Her commitment to relationship-building and academic excellence will serve our school community well.
Mr. Crawley shares the following message:
"As I step aside from the education profession for now, know that’s it’s not a goodbye, rather a see you later. I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to serve the GRPS educational community, specifically my MLK Family (students, staff, parents). I’ve truly been blessed, and words cannot convey how appreciative I am that our lives crossed paths as you allowed me to become a part of yours. My educational experience would mean nothing without you in it, so thank you."
"I leave MLK in great hands, as my successor, Ms. Chasciti Jackson, is an awesome individual who is beyond committed to the growth and learning of scholars and staff. She is accessible, compassionate, knowledgeable, a woman of integrity, and will be a phenomenal instructional leader; I am leaving MLK in great hands, and can’t wait to see, under Ms. Jackson’s leadership, MLK rises to new and greater heights."
Ms. Jackson shares the following message:
“I am honored and excited to join the MLK community and begin this new chapter together. MLK has always held a special place in my heart, and I look forward to partnering with scholars, families, community partners, and staff to build on the strong foundation that have been established while creating new opportunities for growth and achievement for all scholars. I am eager to listen, learn, and work alongside this incredible community as we continue empowering every scholar to reach their fullest potential.”
Please join me in congratulating Mr. Crawley on his well-earned retirement and welcoming Ms. Jackson to the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy family.
We look forward to being back together for the first day of school on Monday, August 24!
Sincerely,
Leadriane Roby, Ph.D.
Superintendent
