Each teacher within the first three years of classroom teaching as defined in section 1526 of the Michigan Revised School Code will be assigned a mentor. The mentor will be available to consult and advise the new teacher.
The purpose of the mentor assignment is to provide the new teacher/employees with a peer who can offer assistance, resources, and information in a non-threatening and collegial fashion.
Mentor Responsibilities
Before the mentorship begins, the principal/supervisor and mentor need to sign the Mentor Agreement through the GRPS Electronic Mentor Matching system.
The fundamental responsibility of the mentor is to support the new teacher/employee to grow professionally. The focus of each mentor/mentee interaction must be based on the four domains of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching: Planning and Preparation, The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and/or Professional Responsibilities.
