GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – There’s a new man in the dugout for the Ottawa Hills Varsity Baseball team, as Kevin Thompson takes the reigns of the program.

“I grew up in the dugout,” Thomspon explained. “What I like about baseball is it's kind of one of those sports where you don't have to be the best talent-wise. You can figure out a way to win.”

Thompson grew up playing baseball at Petoskey High School. He continued at the next level as a pitcher and infielder at Alma College. Following college, he turned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach at the high school and collegiate level. He now brings that experience to Ottawa Hills.

“I've learned so many things through the game of baseball that have translated to my life outside of sports,” he said. “It doesn't matter your skill level. We will find something that you can contribute to the team success.”

“I've been fortunate enough to have great coaches throughout my life that have really made a difference in my life and helped me excel both on and off the field,” he added. “I'm just really excited for that opportunity to hopefully give back to students and future generations.”
