GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Rashawn Rogers has decided to continue his football career on the banks of the Red Cedar by signing to play at Michigan State University.
A senior at Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy (UPREP), Rogers has been a standout multi-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, baseball and track and field for the Ottawa Hills Bengals.
"Everything there is amazing," Rogers said of Michigan State University. "The coaches, the players, alumni. It's like a big old community. It feels amazing. Like I'm just ready to go."
Rogers signed his letter of intent surrounded by classmates, teammates, and family.
"Some of my teammates go to school here with me also and we just built a family," Rogers said.
"Today we celebrate his journey: one of aspiration, achievement and now the realization of his dreams as he prepares to attend Michigan State University and take his talents to the classroom and on the field," UPREP Principal Kenyatta Hill-Hall said.
"We have been able to see Rashawn grow in such a strong leader and great young man in our community," said Chloe Vansickle, Learning Experience Coordinator at UPREP.
Rogers, a towering 6’6”, 285-pound offensive lineman, has established himself as a dominant force on the field.
"This is big for the program," Ottawa Hills Football Coach Kendall Jackson explained. "They know that they can go through our program, go through our district, go through our system, and know that they can get a (division one) offer."
