GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- For more than three decades, Paul Gibson has been a steady and reliable presence at GRPS. As the head custodian at City High Middle School, Gibson plays a critical role behind the scenes, ensuring the building is welcoming for scholars and staff every day.

“I have made some lifelong friends in my 34 years of service,” Gibson said.

His work goes far beyond keeping the building clean. As head custodian, he helps solve problems across the school and supports staff in countless ways.

“My job requires a lot of things and the impacts I make include helping with staff questions, maintaining pools, and repairing custodian equipment,” Gibson explained.

At City High Middle School, Paul’s knowledge of the building and his willingness to help others have made him an invaluable member of the school community.

“Paul is an important part of City, but more than that, GRPS as a whole,” said City High Middle School Principal Charlotte “Charlie” Vandervliet. “His knowledge, expertise, and commitment are unmatched. Paul is an advocate for our buildings and staff and works hard to ensure the safety of our scholars. I am incredibly thankful to work with him each day and partner with him in our school community.”

His commitment to GRPS - and the relationships he has built along the way - continue to make a lasting impact.
