The Board believes that public school academies can serve a useful function in the education of students. In an effort to foster diversity of educational opportunity without sacrificing quality of education or unnecessary duplication, the Board may enter into a contract with, and charter a public school academy(s), in accordance with State law and pursuant to the guidelines set forth by the Michigan Department of Education and the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall recommend approval, modification, amendment, or rejection of all applications for public school academies to the Board.
The Superintendent has the authority to conduct a periodic review of the operations and finances of an academy and submit a report to the Board. The Superintendent also has the authority to designate a certified public accountant to conduct a financial audit of the academy.
