Hazing Prohibited
The act of “hazing” is a crime in the state of Michigan and will not be tolerated by the District. The District will comply, in all ways, with Michigan law regarding any “hazing” incidents.1
Students engaging in any hazing or hazing-type behavior will be subject to the provisions of the Student Code of Conduct as would apply to any other student violation of State law.
1 As defined in MCL 750.411t, “hazing” means “an intentional, knowing, or reckless act by a person acting alone or acting with others that is directed against an individual and that the person knew or should have known endangers the physical health or safety of the individual, and that is done for the purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, participating in, holding office in, or maintaining membership in any organizations. Further, the term “organization” means “a fraternity, sorority, association, corporation, order, society, corps, cooperative, club, service group, social group, athletic team, or similar group whose members are primarily students at an educational institution.”
