GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRSP) -- The Union Redhawks boys golf team placed third at the conference championship on Wednesday, May 13, finishing behind South Christian and West Catholic while defeating Wayland, Thornapple Kellogg, Northview, and Wyoming. The Redhawks finished just seven strokes out of second place.
A season goal for Union was to place in the top three at an OK Gold jamboree, making their top-three finish at the OK Gold Conference Championship a major accomplishment for the team.
Three Union golfers placed in the top 12 out of more than 40 competitors. James Fowler, a sophomore, shot an 80 to finish 9th, while junior Fox Rogers and sophomore Jayden Johnson each shot 81 to tie for 11th place. Fellow varsity golfers Benjamin Harris, CJ McBride, and Ari Ostrow also contributed strong rounds, all finishing under 100.
Union returns to the course May 26 for regional competition in Traverse City.
