GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — The Union Redhawks boys swim and dive team is making significant progress this season, fueled by a wave of new athletes and steady improvement in the pool.

After entering the season with just five returning swimmers and divers, the program added 17 newcomers to its roster.

In February, Union hosted its annual Lap-a-Thon, an endurance challenge and team fundraiser. Swimmers competed to complete as many laps as possible within one hour. As a team, the Redhawks swam a combined 50,575 yards — more than 28 miles — during the event.

On the diving board, freshman Jax Schottke has delivered a standout season. Schottke has earned first-place finishes in several dual meets and has qualified for the Division 1 regional diving meet in early March.

The Redhawks will be in action on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 at Byron Center High School.

“I am so proud of this team,” said Coach Craig Travis. “Please come out and show your support of Redhawk Swim and Dive.”
