GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — A new weight room was unveiled at Ottawa Hills High School, the culmination of efforts from community partners and donors.

The weight room features equipment donated by Planet Fitness. Other partners included Milk Means More, the Grand Rapids Gold basketball team, and the GRPS Foundation.

“This space is absolutely beautiful for our scholars,” said Dr. Leadriane Roby, Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent. “And when I say that I’m not just talking about how it looks. I’m talking about how it came to be. This is the result of major community partners coming together and saying ‘Our kids deserve the best’”.

OHHS scholar-athletes cut the ceremonial ribbon with an oversized pair of scissors as those in attendance applauded.

“I’ve got so much thankfulness in my heart right now,” Ottawa Hills Principal Dr. Tim Mabin said, according to MLive’s report on the unveiling. “I know that my staff and my students are so thankful to have this new weight room…. To have this equipment that the athletes can spend time on getting strong and spend time building relationships with each other.”

The new weight room has space and equipment for more than 60 people to exercise together.
