GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – A school record that stood for nearly four decades has fallen.
Major Vance, a senior at Grand Rapids Montessori Middle High School and a member of the Union Redhawks swim and dive team, delivered a historic performance at the OK Rainbow East Swim-Dive Championships. Vance scored an impressive 407.85 points, securing first place and breaking the previous Redhawks Boys 11 Dive record set in 1988.
"Major has only been diving for three years, and in that short amount of time, his progress has been remarkable," said Kelly Williams, Union Redhawks Swim & Dive Coach. "I'm so proud of his accomplishments and personal growth over the years, especially this season. We practice whenever and wherever we can, including Saturday trampoline work and diving 3 meter with a club team. Major is a natural talent with a very bright future in springboard diving."
With this record-breaking achievement, Vance has punched his ticket to the Division 1 Regional Dive Meet, set for Thursday, March 6, at Hudsonville High School.
