BIRCH RUN, Mich. (GRPS) -- The GRPS Speech and Debate team started the new season with an impressive showing at their first tournament of the year, bringing home seven trophies.
Thirty middle and high school scholars traveled from Grand Rapids to Birch Run during a Saturday in September, joined by Coach Harris and seven parent volunteers who helped drive and judge throughout the day.
The team earned multiple recognitions:

- Varsity Public Forum – 1st Place: Josiah Osei-Agyeman & Krishna Mano
- Varsity Public Forum – 3rd Place: Colette Crowley & Mithil Joshi
- Varsity Public Forum Speaker Awards – Krishna Mano and Colette Crowley
- Novice Public Forum – Tied for 1st Place: Ayan Shukla & Varun Vijay, and Sara Kulkarni & Nishtha Lakhani
- Novice Public Forum Speaker Awards – Ayan Shukla, Varun Vijay, and Sara Kulkarni
In addition to the awards, 13 new scholars participated in an all-day debate workshop to prepare for upcoming competitions.
Their next tournament is Saturday, Oct. 18 in Goshen, Indiana.
