GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) - The Union Redhawks bowling team is gearing up for another competitive season, aiming to make a strong showing as the road to regionals begins. With a focus on teamwork, precision, and consistency, the Redhawks are preparing to face a challenging schedule while honing their skills on the lanes. They’ll practice and host home matches at Westgate Bowling, while traveling across West Michigan for conference and non-conference competition.

Key players, Kingston Jones and Justin Hilliard, are expected to be central figures for the team this season. Jones, who was All-Conference First Team and a top-20 finisher at last year’s regionals, is aiming to break into the state qualifier list. Hilliard, who earned All-Conference Honorable Mention last season, brings additional experience and steady play to help anchor the lineup.

At the helm is Coach Kamani Jones, a longtime figure in the local bowling community. In addition to leading the high school program, Coach Jones runs Directions Unlimited, a youth bowling league that has been active since the early 1980s. Through this league, young bowlers gain the opportunity to develop their technique, sportsmanship, and love for the game—values that Coach Jones also brings to the Redhawks program. As he often tells his athletes, Teamwork makes the dream work,” a motto he believes is crucial to building a successful and connected team.

As the Redhawks progress through their early-season schedule, they are emphasizing the fundamentals that define success in competitive bowling. The team is working to build consistency and preparing for the key regional matchups, both individually and collectively. Bowling—a sport that demands mental concentration and physical precision—requires steady practice and strategic teamwork. These are all qualities the Redhawks are striving to strengthen as the season progresses.

The Union Redhawks are pushing to peak by February, counting on veteran leadership and the steady leadership of Coach Jones to help them thrive in the regional tournament.
