GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- The Union High School Football Program is developing the next generation of Redhawks during the fourth annual off-season youth development clinics happening on Sundays in February and March.
Hosted at Union High School, the clinics focus on football fundamentals through skills, drills, formation work, and friendly competition. Sessions are divided by age group, with the first session serving third- through fifth-grade athletes and the second session designed for sixth- through eighth-grade players. More than 100 participants registered for the clinics.
The clinics are led by Union High School’s coaching staff, with support from current varsity players who volunteer their time to mentor younger athletes. These players help lead drills, demonstrate techniques, and share insights from their own on-field experiences, creating a hands-on, supportive environment that helps the next generation of Redhawks develop both skills and confidence.
“These clinics are an important way for us to provide development opportunities for our young athletes while also building continuity between our youth, middle school, and high school football programs,” said Megan Persons, Union Youth Football Director. “It’s exciting to see our older players mentoring the next generation of Redhawks and helping them grow their skills and passion for the game.”
Varsity quarterback Chance Hammingh agreed.
“It’s important for us to give kids the chance to develop skills and build relationships early so they can have a better future in the game and as people,” Hammingh said.
The free clinics provide a valuable opportunity for young athletes to engage with the program while continuing to build the foundation for Union football’s future.
The final two clinics are March 15 and 22. To sign up and learn more information about Union Football, please contact:
