DETROIT, Mich. (GRPS) -- The Union High School JROTC won the state drill competition on December 6 at Cass Technical High School in Detroit.

The JROTC competed in five different missions during the competition: platoon, squad, color guard, LET 1 (Leadership, Education and Training, Level One), and inspection. The Union JROTC placed in all five events, capturing the most overall points to win the state title.

"The cadets worked hard," said JROTC Army Instructor Ryan Smith. "I am happy for them. They are a bunch of hardworking, good cadets."

For scholars, this is the culmination of years of dedication.

"Our freshman year, we placed second, our sophomore year we placed third, and our junior year we didn’t place. It’s nice to finish on top our senior year," explained Amy Gomez, a senior at Union High School. “The amount of long hours after school practicing and developing the discipline amongst all cadets takes time, commitment, and consistency.”
