GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Sam Kik cemented his place in school history with an incredible performance at the Division 1 State Wrestling Tournament held at Ford Field. Competing in the 106-pound weight class, Kik battled his way to a fifth-place finish, earning All-State honors and securing his 100th career victory along the way.

Kik, a junior at CA Frost Environmental Science Middle High School who wrestles for the Union Redhawks, had a dominant run to the state tournament. He won his conference championship and followed it up with a district title. At regionals, he took second place, setting the stage for his remarkable state tournament run.

"One of Sam's goals was to make it to state this year. He works hard in practice while keeping up his GPA. Sam is an example for younger wrestlers to look up to.  We as a team are looking to build a strong program and getting more students into wrestling in states," said head coach Ryan Smith.

With another season ahead of him, Kik’s success at the state tournament only adds to his growing legacy.
