Board of Education

The Grand Rapids Board of Education was founded on April 11, 1871, and is comprised of nine dedicated and passionate individuals who are publicly elected to four-year terms. The Board works closely with the Superintendent on policy, budget, legislative, academic, and operational matters to meet the mission of Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Board Meeting Overview


All meetings are public. As needed, the Board may hold a closed session in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. The public is not able to attend this portion of the meeting. When applicable, all formal actions resulting from these meetings must be done in public session.

All meetings are held at the Rev. Lyman S. Parks Administration Building located at 1331 Martin Luther King Jr. Street SE, unless otherwise stated in the posting. Staff is present to direct the public to the meeting room. 

Meetings must be posted minimally 18 hours prior to the scheduled start date/time.
