GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – Grand Rapids Board of Education Trustee Arick Davis has stepped down from his position, effective Friday, January 23.
"It is with great disappointment that I announce the resignation of one of our Board colleagues, Arick Davis,” said Board of Education President José Rodriguez. “As a parent, business owner, community leader, and a product of our very own Grand Rapids Public Schools system, Arick brought a unique and necessary perspective to the Board of Education. His presence will be missed. We wish nothing but the absolute best to Mr. Davis and his family on their future endeavors, and we want to remind them that they will always have a home with GRPS.”
The Grand Rapids Board of Education is announcing that it is accepting applications from those interested in filling the vacant position, in accordance with Board Policy 1170. The appointee will be named within 30 days and will hold office through December 31, 2026, when an elected member will fill the remaining two years of the term.
“We are certain that we will find a capable community leader to join the Grand Rapids Board of Education and help usher in a new era for Grand Rapids Public Schools," Rodriguez said.
The following timeline will be used for filling this vacant seat:
- January 26 – February 4: Request for Applicants
- February 9 at 6:30pm: Review Search Criteria and Selection of Candidates to Interview
- February 18 at 6pm: Interviews and Final Vote
How to apply:
Applicants must submit a resume and a letter of intent explaining why they are seeking the office, why they believe they are qualified, and what experience they may have with GRPS and/or public education. To be legally qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen, registered to vote, and live in the GRPS district. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4.
Applications should be submitted via email to BOEApplications@grps.org. If email is not available, applications may be delivered to the district office at 1331 Martin Luther King Jr. St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Hand-delivered applications will be accepted during district business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If transportation is a barrier, please call 616.819.2078. While mailed applications will be accepted if received in time, given the timeline available for submissions, mailing the materials is not advised.
