Dear City High Middle Parents and Guardians,

It is with a broken heart that I write to you to share news that our beloved coach Bathian Mason passed away unexpectedly following a medical episode early this morning.

Coach Mason was an integral part of our school community who coached our scholars year-round. He led our volleyball, girls and boys basketball, and track teams for more than ten years.

Coach Mason was on the court with his athletes just last week doing what he did best.

We know news of his passing is hitting our scholars hard and we will have our support staff in place to help our young people as we grieve this loss as a school community.

We opted to postpone Wednesday night’s basketball game to allow our staff and scholars time to process this loss. That game has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. It will be played at City. Coach Kurt Rizley has agreed to step in to coach the team.

We will be looking for ways to come together to pay tribute to Coach Mason. We will reach out with more information when the time comes.

Please keep Coach Mason’s family and our school community in your thoughts as we mourn his loss and celebrate the years of service he dedicated to our scholars.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
