GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Union High School math teacher and JV football head coach Colson Ceglarek is making his mark both in the classroom and on the field.
A native of West Michigan, Ceglarek joined Grand Rapids Public Schools with a commitment to building a strong, supportive environment for students and peers alike.
"I grew up in West Michigan and knew I wanted to stay in the area," Ceglarek shared. "I chose GRPS specifically because I believe the culture, climate, and community are superior to other schools in the area. From the first interview, I felt welcomed and encouraged to begin my career, and I could not be happier with where I am."
Since joining GRPS, Ceglarek has embraced his role at Union High School wholeheartedly, participating in a wide array of activities beyond teaching math. From coaching JV and Varsity football, leading the 7th and 8th-grade football teams, subbing in classrooms, and even attending music and JROTC events, Ceglarek takes every opportunity to connect with scholars.
"Being present, I believe, helps me develop those relationships with the students," he said. "Creating those relationships builds the culture and optimism we need in our community."
Ceglarek’s approach reflects his belief in the power of community and highlights the positive impact a dedicated teacher and coach can have on school culture. His commitment to Union High School exemplifies the GRPS spirit, providing scholars with an educator who is not only passionate about teaching but also deeply invested in their personal growth and success.
