GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- At Shawmut Hills Academy, no two days are ever the same for school secretary Lisa Stewart - and that’s exactly what she loves about her job. With an ever-changing schedule and new challenges each day, Stewart finds joy in seeing scholars and supporting staff whenever she can.
Stewart’s journey with GRPS began as a parent. With two children attending Shawmut Hills, the school schedule fit perfectly with her family life. She initially joined GRPS as part of a tutoring program, later transitioning into a library and literacy paraprofessional role, where she worked for eight years.
After taking five years off to care for her youngest child, Stewart returned when her daughter entered first grade, this time as a part-time secretary. Over the years, she has become an essential part of the school’s daily operations.
Stewart believes in making a positive impact at Shawmut Hills. Whether assisting teachers with field trip paperwork and flyers or warmly welcoming scholars, parents, and staff, she takes pride in being a friendly and helpful presence.
“I think I am a good first impression of our school,” she explained. Her dedication to creating a welcoming environment reflects the strong sense of community at Shawmut Hills Academy.
Through her work, Stewart ensures that scholars, families, and staff feel supported every day. Her journey from parent to school secretary is a testament to her commitment to education and the GRPS community.
