GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – (Sept.15, 2025) – Lace up your running shoes and get ready to "Use your feet before you eat!" The Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) Turkey Trot returns for its 33rd year, continuing a beloved Thanksgiving tradition. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are once again proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of this annual event that promotes healthy living, community spirit, and supports GRPS athletics.

To celebrate the return of the Turkey Trot to downtown Grand Rapids, a special kickoff event took place Tuesday morning outside Van Andel Arena, the starting line for the race. The event provided an opportunity for businesses and community leaders to learn more about the Turkey Trot, the GRPS Foundation and how businesses and individuals can be involved.

This marks Blue Care Network of Michigan’s 11th year as presenting sponsor, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to youth wellness and community health. Additionally, Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) returns as the Mini Trot sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, supporting the youngest Turkey Trot participants.

"The GRPS Turkey Trot is a powerful reminder that community and wellness go hand in hand," said Joe Hune, vice president, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and president, West Michigan & Upper Peninsula Region. "We’re proud to continue to support this tradition that not only encourages healthy habits but also directly benefits student athletes across Grand Rapids."

The Turkey Trot is aiming to top last year’s record-breaking success, which saw 6,435 participants and raised over $300,000 for GRPS Athletics through registrations, sponsorships, and donations.

Registration for the race is open. Participants can sign up here.

“The Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot is a reflection of our community’s dedication to supporting our incredible scholars,” said Dr. Leadriane Roby, GRPS Superintendent. “We’re proud to see our families, neighbors, and businesses come together each year to uplift GRPS and celebrate the season with purpose.”
