GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — At Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy (UPREP), Hannah Gallon is helping scholars discover their path forward. As a college and career readiness and creative writing teacher, she guides scholars as they explore who they are and who they want to become.

“I love watching scholars create their future plans,” she said. “It’s amazing to see when they realize that their dreams are achievable and make the plans to reach them. In my creative writing courses, I enjoy watching scholars explore a new kind of self-expression.”

Gallon’s journey to GRPS began with an experience that left a lasting impression. While working as a teacher assistant at Union High School, she found herself drawn to the district’s culture of purpose and partnership.

“I chose to work at GRPS because I had a wonderful experience as a GVSU teacher assistant at Union High School,” she said. “I found the GRPS community to be intentional and supportive. I also love how many community partners show up for our scholars.”

At UPREP, her commitment to scholars goes beyond daily instruction. She believes strongly in the power of relationships.

“I feel like I have been able to build relationships with our scholars, their caregivers, and community partners that create a sense of belonging for everyone involved,” she shared.

Her classroom is a place where scholars build confidence and community, reflecting what it means to be a GRPS Champion.
