“GRPS Champions” is a web series published every Monday celebrating the incredible work of GRPS team members.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Illiana Garcia, a dedicated GSRP Associate Teacher at Burton Elementary School, finds joy in building meaningful connections with scholars and their families.

"What I enjoy most about my job here at GRPS is establishing relationships with the students and families. Witnessing the growth of each student come alive is truly rewarding," she shared.

Garcia is passionate about the profound impact she has on her young scholars.

"Building strong and positive relationships with each child is key," she explained. "Early childhood education is crucial for a child’s development. It lays a strong foundation for social-emotional growth, preparing students for future academic success."

Working at GRPS has been both a personal and professional choice for Garcia.

"It has allowed me to spend time with my family while also growing and learning as an educator," she said. "I’m committed to making a positive impact on students’ lives, and there is no other place I’d rather be than here at GRPS."

Through her dedication to early childhood education and her commitment to fostering positive relationships, Illiana Garcia exemplifies what it means to be a GRPS Champion.
