“GRPS Champions” is a web series published every Monday celebrating the incredible work of GRPS team members.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – For City High Middle School’s Head Secretary, her role is all about the relationships she builds and impact she hopes to leave.
“Without a doubt, what I enjoy most about my job is working with scholars,” Alesia Albin shared. “They make each day unique, bright, and meaningful. Their fresh perspectives and innovative thinking constantly intrigue and entertain me, and they remind me what truly matters. Even on my toughest days, a few conversations with them are enough to lift my spirits and bring back the joy in my work.”
Albin also deeply values the relationships she has with her colleagues, seeing these connections as vital to the school’s success.
“We can implement the best programs or emulate the greatest thinkers, but without a real emotional connection, the true potential is lost,” she said. “It’s those meaningful connections that bring our work to life and make a lasting impact.”
Her journey with Grand Rapids Public Schools began when a principal and secretary noticed her potential while she was volunteering as a parent.
“My first principal and his secretary saw the work I was doing as a parent volunteer and recognized that I had something valuable to offer the school community,” Albin recalled. “With their encouragement, I began applying my years of education to strengthen organizational skills, expand my computer knowledge, and demonstrate traits like dependability, loyalty, and follow-through.”
In her role at City High Middle, Albin’s focus is on being there for her community every day, striving to make each person’s experience positive.
Ultimately, Albin’s goal is to serve as a champion for those around her, protecting, supporting, and celebrating each person’s unique gifts.
“That’s the impact I hope to make: one of genuine care, dedication, and advocacy,” she shared.
Through her commitment to building connections and making a difference in small but powerful ways, Albin exemplifies what it means to be a GRPS Champion.
