GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- At Buchanan Elementary, third-grade teacher Sarah Garcia is making a profound impact on her scholars and school community.
"I enjoy the kids! I am always amazed at their abilities to speak, learn, and work in two languages - and sometimes even three,” Garcia explained. “I love how they really love to do their best and participate in their learning.
Her journey at Buchanan Elementary began when she was a student teacher at the school while attending Grand Valley State University.
"I never left!" Garcia said. "I love that I can use my Spanish and feel immersed in the language and culture here. I think the parental support here is high as well."
Garcia also values the camaraderie she shares with her colleagues.
"Having colleagues that I also consider friends makes the job easier and less stressful," she said.
Her contributions to Buchanan Elementary go beyond the classroom, as she is involved in mentoring, serves on the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), and steps in whenever needed to support both scholars and staff with positivity and high energy.
Through her dedication, Garcia continues to shape young minds, foster a love for learning, and strengthen the Buchanan Elementary community.
