The Board accepts full responsibility for keeping the public informed about the function and operation of the District.

Public’s Right to Know (Cf. 1370)

All decisions of the Board shall be made in public. The public will be given opportunities to make comment on proposed Board actions. The Board retains the right to determine the parameters by which public input is obtained so long as such parameters do not impede the free exercise of patrons to express concerns or ask questions with full opportunity extended to citizens to be heard prior to the making of these decisions. Closed sessions shall be held to a minimum and only for specific reasons as provided by current law.

School-Sponsored Information Media

The Board shall issue a newsletter to all patrons of the District containing information about the achievements, needs, challenges, operation, and activities of the schools. Time will be set aside at Board meetings as appropriate to recognize the achievements of students, the staff, and the public.

Hazardous Materials or Conditions

The Superintendent shall be responsible for informing the public about any hazardous materials or conditions in the District under the provision of the Michigan Public Health Code.

The implementation of the public information program of the District shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent.
